Northern Reconciliation Group Calls for Collective Action to End the Cycle of Insecurity across Northern Nigeria

The Northern Reconciliation Group (NRG) has expressed what it called deep concern over the growing wave of violent attacks, abductions, kidnappings, banditry, and other forms of insecurity affecting vulnerable communities in many states across Northern Nigeria.

The group said it is common to observe that from rural communities to semi-urban areas, families continue to live in fear, grief, and uncertainty as a result of the situation.

The NRG further extend “our solidarity to all victims of violent attacks and to the countless communities that have suffered loss of life, displacement, and the destruction of livelihoods.” “These recurring tragedies not only represent a deep wound to our shared humanity but also continue to threaten the social fabric that binds our diverse region together.” The statement added.

It further stresssed that “as a non-partisan group committed to peace through dialogue, healing and reconciliation, the NRG affirms that the protection of life and human dignity is the most fundamental obligation of governance. The sheer scale and persistence of insecurity across the northern region must no longer be treated as isolated incidents or localized challenges.”

The jointly signed state by interim Secretary Dr. Joe Lengmang and interim Publicity Secretary Prof Usman Yusuf restated that the violence constitute a regional and national security emergency that “require urgent, coordinated, and humane responses.”

The Northern Reconciliation Group calls for:

1. The intensification of lawful, intelligence-driven efforts to secure the release of all abducted persons and disrupt criminal networks across the region.

2. The decisive implementation of enhanced security and early-warning strategies tailored to the protection of human lives and vulnerable communities.

3. A renewed commitment to justice, accountability, and community-driven approaches that rebuild trust between citizens and state institutions.

“We make this appeal in the spirit of unity and shared responsibility because human security must rise above all divisions.” The statement reaffirmed that the NRG remains committed to supporting, through honest and inclusive dialogue, all efforts aimed at restoring safety, dignity, and lasting peace across Northern Nigeria.
