NSCDC decry prevalence in rape, domestic violence in Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, has decried the increasing cases of rape and gender based violence in the state

The Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr Makinde Iskil Ayinla, has therefore advised residents in the state to shun all forms of  vices including rape and other gender-based violence.

A statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin by Mr Babawale Afolabi, the command’s spokesman, quoted Ayinla, as giving the advice during a sensitisation programme organised by the command’s human trafficking and illegal migration unit.

“The State Commandant, Mr Makinde Iskil Ayinla appeals to the residents of the state, to shun any disgraceful and criminal act that can drag the good image of the state into the mud.

“The rise in the cases of gender-based violence; such as rape, child abuse, violence against women, child trafficking, and other forms of criminal behavior should stop.

“Hardly will a day pass without reports of gender-based violence,’’ the commandant, represented by the Head of Operation Unit (HOU), Assistant Commandant F.O. Bamigboye, said.

The statement said that the NSCDC has initiated partnerships with organisations such as the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and other human rights organisations to stem the menace.

The enlightenment programme saw the officials walking through some major roads in Ilorin metropolis, and addressing members of the public including members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and traders.
