SOKOTO STATE PDP A DISPENSER OF IRRESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP – Dahiru Yusuf Yabo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has persistently demonstrated poor judgment and a glaring inability to manage even the simplest of organizational issues. This chronic mismanagement, coupled with a series of unfair decisions driven by self-serving and primordial sentiments, significantly contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2023 general elections.

It is particularly disconcerting that the very individuals responsible for leading the party into disarray now muster the audacity to criticize the leadership of other parties. These leaders have successfully unified their ranks, creating formidable opposition before, during, and after the 2023 governorship election in Sokoto State.

Instead of introspectively addressing the leadership failures that have led to the party’s degeneration across all levels, the anointed executive leadership engages in superficial social media antics. Their misguided criticisms are not only self-inflicted but also mischievous, further eroding the party’s credibility.

The PDP in Sokoto State is hemorrhaging support due to the cunning attitudes of its leaders, who stubbornly refuse to learn from past deceptions that have plunged the party into its current predicament. Rather than confronting the issues that have led to this quagmire, these opportunists continue to mislead their supporters, to the detriment of their sponsors.

The party’s strength has been further diminished by the departure of prominent members who felt marginalized during the delegate elections. Notably, former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa resigned from the PDP to focus on a newly established platform, the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative . Additionally, several key stalwarts were disenfranchised during the ward, local government, and state congresses in Sokoto State.

Despite numerous appeals, supported by incontrovertible evidence, and promises to address these leadership failures, the party’s response has been irresponsibly deceptive. Alarmingly, this foolhardy approach has now extended to the youth wing of the party, leaving it completely disoriented.

These internal conflicts have led to widespread speculation, with pundits suggesting that the discontentment is a calculated move by insiders harboring grudges from the 2023 pre-election mishaps.

Unfortunately, despite reaping the bitter fruits of their refusal to listen during the harvest, the party’s leaders continue to operate on empty assumptions, displaying a lack of foresight.

Previously, the over-celebrated defection of powerful figures from the All Progressives Congress (APC) led to overconfidence and a misplacement of the party’s core strengths. Now, the inexperienced and anointed leadership of the PDP in the state is repeating the same mistake, celebrating hollow victories at the expense of further disorganizing the already fragile party structure.

It is imperative for the PDP in Sokoto State to undertake a comprehensive introspection, address its leadership deficiencies, and realign its strategies to restore the confidence of its members and supporters. Without such measures, the party risks further decline and irrelevance in the state’s political landscape.
