The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and other stakeholders have urged women folk to sustain the the resilience embodied in them and strive for excellence in their various professions.
The stakeholders, made the call at the Zone-D Executive Council (ZEC) meeting of NAWOJ on Thursday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
In her remarks at the meeting, Mrs Chizoba Ogbeche, Zone-D Vice President of the association urged women to continue to support and uplift each other to excel in their chosen careers.
She explained that in a men dominated world, it takes a hardworking woman who have demonstrated resilience to excel hence the need for every woman to readable their efforts.
The Vice President appreciated the Nasarawa State government for giving recognition to the women expecially journalists opportunity to serve at various capacities in his government.
Ogbeche also appreciated all men who are supporting women and promised that the would use their various platforms as journalists to promote women who had broken barriers to encourage young girls.
She emphasised that when women have access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, they can drive growth and stability in their various communities.
She highlighted the importance of women taking up leadership roles and contributing to good governance and economic development.
Declaring the event open, Haj. Silifat Sule, wife of the state governor emphasised the need for women to be proactive and take charge of their lives to contribute to the development of the state and the country.
On her part, Haj. Imaan Suleiman -Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development encouraged women to mentor and support one another, and to strive for excellence in their chosen professions.
The minister represented by Nasir Zakari, her Special Adviser on Political Affairs, noted that women in leadership positions are promoting social cohesion, addressing inequalities, and ensuring that policies reflect their needs.
She said that the President Bola Tinubu’s administration had so far rolled out a lot of initiative aimed at empowering women and promised that more are on the way to ensure that they take their pride of place in the country.
On her part, Barr. Abigail Waya, Nasarawa State Head of Civil Service, appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for appointing so many women into sensitive positions in the state.
She also commended women who have excel in every sector of the economy and she said that it takes resilience for a woman to achieve excellence in any area including marriage.
She also lauded women journalists that they are making women folks proud in their display of professionalism in all major media organisations in the country.
“In the past, only few women are practicing journalists, but the case is different now and we are really proud of what they are doing,” Waya added.
The event, had in attendance Salihu Mohammed-Alkali, Nasarawa State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ibrahim Addra, Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
Others are NAWOJ Chairmen and Secretaries from the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and women from various sectors.
