Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing prolonged internal crises and divisions within the party as the reason for his departure.
In a letter dated August 20, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the SDP at Tudun Kofa Ward, Keffi Local Government Area, the Senator expressed deep regret over his decision, stating it was made after considerable reflection. However, he maintained that the ongoing internal conflicts and legal disputes within the party left him with no other choice.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time,” the letter reads in part. “These internal conflicts have led to serious division and litigations within the party.”

Senator Wadada, who is also the Sarkin Yakin Keffi and Magajin dangin Lafian Bare-Bari, thanked the party for the opportunities he had while serving under its banner. He acknowledged the relationships and experiences he gained during his time with the SDP, describing them as invaluable.
“I appreciate the opportunities given to me while being a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and I am grateful for the experiences and relationships built. However, I feel it is time for me to move on and explore new avenues,” he added.
Senator Wadada currently serves on the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) and is a notable political figure as well as a leading contender for the governorship of Nasarawa State in 2027 general elections.
Already, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has indicated his interest to join his former party, the APC. However, political observers believe his joining the APC will significantly impact the political landscape in Nasarawa State.
