Senator Barau

By David Odama

The Deputy Presiden of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin has reiterated that public office holders in Nigeria are partners in progress with journalists for the good of Nigerians.

Senator Barau stated this in his office on Friday while receiving executives of the Senate Press Corps, SPC, who commended him for being the sponsor of highest number of private member bills in the 10th Senate so far.

The SPC led by Mr. James Itodo had in recognition of Senator Barau’s highest number of sponsored bills and positive disposition to journalists generally, made him the grand patron of the corps.

Itodo recalled that one the bills sponsored by Barau was the North West Development Commission Bill which is now an Act of parliament after presidential assent as laws regulating the North West Development Commission already serving as a development – driven intervention agency in the zone.

In his response, Barau commended members of the Senate Press Corps for the recognition given him on his legislative activities.

He said the recognition serves as motivation for him to do more for his constituents in Kano State and Nigerians generally.

“First of all, let me thank God for making it possible for me to be so honoured by you and by this esteemed Senate Press Corps. I am glad that you honoured me.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. So, I thank you very much because you maintain this kind of thing of making sure that you try to discover those who are doing well every year and get them honoured.

“It’s your contribution to making sure that the legislature remains vibrant. Once you identify those who are doing well and you honour them through awards of this nature, that will create some kind of competition and will propel others to do more so that they can be recognized at some other time in the future.

“We are no doubt, partners in progress for the good of Nigerians and Nigeria,” he said.
