BREAKING: Appeal Court Overturns High Court Ruling, Affirms Wole Oluyede As PDP Gov Candidate For Ekiti

The Appeal Court ruled that Wole Oluyede is the duly nominated PDP governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Ekiti State.

The Court of Appeal of Nigeria in Akure, Ondo State, has overturned the judgement of the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti which nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Ekiti State.

The Appeal Court ruled that Wole Oluyede is the duly nominated PDP governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Ekiti State.

In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, the three-man appellate panel led by Peter Chudi Obiorah, with Jane Esienanwan Inyang and Peter O. Affen as members, set aside the earlier ruling of the Federal High Court of Nigeria sitting in Ado-Ekiti which had nullified the party’s governorship primary election.

The appellate court held that the PDP governorship primary election conducted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki was valid, transparent, and in compliance with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

The court therefore ruled that the primary election held on November 8 and 9, 2025, which produced Oluyede as the party’s candidate, was duly conducted.

SaharaReporters gathered that the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti had on January 13, 2026, nullified the PDP governorship primary election in the state.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, the PDP filed an appeal challenging the judgment.

In its decision on Thursday, the Court of Appeal allowed the appeal and set aside the lower court’s judgment, thereby restoring the outcome of the primary election that produced Oluyede.

The ruling effectively ends months of legal disputes surrounding the PDP’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 election in Ekiti State.
