BREAKING: Don’t Travel Without Permission – Tinubu 

 

The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has ban ministers, head of agencies, and other government officials from embarking on public funded foreign trips abroad for three months from April 1st, 2024.

 

A statement from the Chief of Staff to president Tinubu addressed to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation added that government officials who intend to go for any public funded international trip must first seek and obtain presidential approval at least two weeks prior to embarking on any such trip, which must be deemed absolutely necessary. The cir ular dayed 12th of March 2024 further explained that requests will have to state clearly reason and benefits of such visits to the country.

 

Sources say the measure is part of the President’s smart strategies to reduce travel expenditures by senior government officials in line with the current mood of the nation especially now that many of the minister’s performance will come under close appraisal and scrutiny with a view to evaluating their impact and strategies as the Tinubu presidency approaches its first year in office. Other sources say the move is welcomed, especially coming against sharp public criticism of government heavy spending on travels and luxury for its top officials.
