Buhari Pledges continued support to Chad.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to sustaining close ties with the Chadian government especially in this relentless combat against terrorism. President Buhari made this disclosure while hosting the President, Transitional Military Council of Chad; Lt. Gen. Mahamat Idris Deby, on Friday at the State House in Abuja.
“We are bound together by culture and geography and we will help in all ways we can. Nigerians appreciate the role Chad played in helping us to combat terrorism and we will continue the collaboration”, Buhari said.
Buhari while describing the late President of Chad; Idriss Deby Itno as a friend and a friend of Nigeria, added that the country will not hesitate to offer support to Chad especially as it prepares to conduct elections for a transition to democratic government in 18 months.

Buhari further said that Nigeria would help strengthen the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
Mahamat, in his remarks, thanked Nigeria for the solidarity shown after the passage of his father.
“We rely on our brother country Nigeria, as we have shared history, culture and geography. We are ready to be guided by you in our journey to constitutional rule”, he said.
Lt. Gen. Mahamat Idris Deby is the President, Transitional Military Council of Chad, a council, formed after the death of late President Idriss Deby, his father, meant to run the country until a return to democratic governance in 18 months.
