It was an atmosphere of celebration at the National Directorate Headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps (Yakubu Gowon House, Maitama-Abuja on Tuesday, 4th January, 2022 as members of staff comprising Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and other categories including security, cleaners and Corps members thronged out to welcome their Director General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, who came to the office for the very first time since his decoration with a new rank of Major General.
Recall that the news of the Director General’s promotion from the rank of Brigadier General to Major General filtered the air in the 3rd week of December, 2021 and was subsequently decorated on Thursday the 30th day of the same month.
The event climaxed with a welcome parade which included a quarter guard that saw the officers queued up from the gate to the reception of the headquarters building.
Recall that since coming to office, the DG has introduced several reforms and innovations to make the service more productive and enjoyable to both the corp members and the staff.
Some of his landmark achievements includes Covid-19 innovations that has seen the service records very low cases despite continuation of its activities in various orientation caps in the country.
Recall also that under General Ibrahim’s watch, the service has carried out several life touching medical outreaches with great testimonies from beneficiaries across the country.
Others are, generation and remission of N1b revenue to the Federal government account between 2020 and 2021 through its various ventures across the country.
The NYSC Trust Fund, health insurance for corp members, human touch to governance, improvement of staff welfare among several others are also noticeable achievements recorded by the DG so far.
The DG who took turns to exchange pleasantries with everyone present at the occasion, thanked them for their enormous contributions to the successes recorded by his administration so far and urged them to continue to do more for the service.
