Members of the opposition People’s Democratic party PDP in Nasarawa state yesterday shun move by two senators to scuttle ward congresses of the party in the state.
It would be recalled that a serving and former PDP senators had allegedly approached a federal high court to secure an injunction to restrain their party from the conduct of the ward congresses in the state.
Stakeholders, other party members and their supporters yesterday troop out in their numbers to conduct the scheduled party congresses across the 13 Local government areas of the state.
In Akwang-East electoral Ward held their congress in a peaceful atmosphere where they reaffirmed their initial consensus for all positions., While those in Lafia, Karu Doma Obi, Awe Keana, Keffi amongst other electorial wards participated in the conduct of the ward congress.
According to some members of the party, ” how can serving and former senators who are fully involve in decision making for the party decide to go to court to stop the process they have nurtured and agree on consensus turned around to fault the process at the dying minute”
“We in Nasarawa State were not aware of the court order, our National secretariate never communicated us us. INEC officials, the police and other security agencies were on hand to prove security for the conduct of the Congress”, party members stated.
Speaking further on the issue, a chieftain of the party from Doma who never wanted his name mentioned alleged that the party hierarchy including the two senators had agree on two options which consensus or you buy form to contest the election.
“We are surprised to hear that a serving Senator from Doma and a former senator from Obi went to court to stop the process they all agreed on. We can not be held down by those we are not very sure of their interest in the progress and stability of the party in Nasarawa state” the Chieftain of the party stated.
Commenting on the development, a Chieftain of the part and the former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Mike Omeri appealed to all members of the party to bury the hatchet and search for peace through dialogue.
“Our association in the PDP family will not encumber the relationship we have always had and shared. Opportunities happen to humans turn by turn. No one can force the clock to wait or work for him or her. Even the current struggle for opportunities to serve shall pass away someday. Others will definitely take our place in due time”, Dr Omeri declared..
