When The National Mandate Group Met in Abuja

Penultimate week, a political group christened the National Mandate Group, NMG, made up of heavy weights in the trajectory of the nation’s political arena, came together in Abuja, the nation’s capital, under the aegis of a collective to propagate the philosophy of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the vision of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa towards the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Nigeria. The occasion was the inauguration of the National Caucus of the group led by its Board of Trustees, BOT under the Chair of Ambassador Hassan Ardo Tukur OFR, erstwhile Principal Private Secretary to former president Goodluck  Ebele Jonathan GCFR.

The large and enthusiastic attendance at the gathering revealed if nothing, the hunger for vigorous political activities to commence in earnest, in order to replace the sitting government and redirect the affairs of the country, hopefully, back to the road not taken or, once left. The inauguration is akin to setting the stage set the stage for robust brain works, debates and national discourse on good governance among other variables and reset issues, to recover the country from the prevailing trust deficits, insecurity and decay in various sectors as claimed by the conveners, largely made up of ex this and that as well as budding politicians and youth activists from across the national landscape.

The NMG BOT chairman, Ambassador Hassan Tukur stated at the occasion that the group plans to cue into the 5 key agenda prepositions of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar because of the sync and similarities of the aims and objectives of both the presidential candidate and that of the NMG.

Ambassador Tukur, stated that the NMG whose aim and objectives are to strengthen all the frontiers of national development through effective partnerships, citizen mobilization for good governance and tapping into the available human and natural capital that the country is endowed with to bring real progress and development to the nation in peace, harmony and plenty.

In his remarks, National Coordinator of the NMG, Sen. Lee Maeaba explained the vision of the group amongst others is to amplify, reinforce and strengthen the unity and progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by engaging in the national discourse that will help in deepening internal democracy and good governance through an all-inclusive mobilisation and support for the enthronement of good governance at all levels.

He restated that the NMG’s mission will provide a credible national platform for the total and comprehensive mobilization of popular support through the aggressive engagement of citizens that will culminate into a comprehensive action plan towards a national rebirth and victory for everyone on the platform of the Party and the country most importantly.

Recall that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had released his 5 key agenda to include an inclusive government that captures the various interest groups and demography of the Nigeria federation, good governance, tackle the ravaging insecurity in the country, create jobs and encourage economic development as well as secure the citizens and their lives.

The NMG inaugurated a six member board comprising of representatives from the six geo political zones along with a National Coordinator. These eminent personalities include Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur Northeast (chairman), Sen Ben Obi, (Southeast), Ex Gov Attahiru Bafarawa (Northwest), Sen Lee Maeba (South -South), as the National Coordinator while Chief Omotayo Dairo represents the Southwest. Kashim Tumsah, MFR is the National Secretary of the National Mandate Group.

The National Caucus comprises of all BoT members, special nominees, Directors as well as all the thirty six plus the FCT coordinators of the National Mandate Group which has since swung into action in their respective States within the framework of their responsibilities and mission of the group which, as a political national platform, is out to influence national debates and comprehension of Atiku’s 5 key agenda to unlock and expose the prosperity and possibilities of the land to its peoples to which, the NMG says, it is committed to the actualization of a PDP presidency in the 2023 general election.

The well attended media event had representation from all the 36 states of the federation, former officers of the PDP, gubernatorial, senatorial and House of representative aspirants, ex diplomats and heads of missions, active politicians and cross section of society.
