2023: Next President Should Come From The South – Southern Governors Resolve

Southern governors have jointly agreed that Nigeria’s next President should emerge from the southern region.

Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu who disclosed this while addressing journalists on Monday, after a closed-door meeting in Alausa, Lagos State, added that the governors have also set September 21, 2021, as the deadline for the promulgation of anti-open grazing law among its member states.

On the area of security, the governors warned all security agencies in the country against operating in the region without obtaining permission from the governor of the particular state.

The governors equally rejected the proposed 3 percent equity shares proposed for oil- bearing communities in the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently passed by the National Assembly, but insisted on 5 percent, as proposed by the House of Representatives.

The governor further re-affirmed their commitment to the unity of Nigeria on the pillars of equity, fairness, justice, progress and peaceful co-existence between and amongst its people.
