The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State Council, on Wednesday, charged the state government to hasten up the process for the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage for it workers and to approve weigh-in allowances for all category of workers that are due for it.
The union gave this charge in a Communique issued to newsmen at the end of its Congress held at David Ukuma hall, NUJ House, Makurdi on Wednesday, 13th November, 2024.
Members appreciated both the Federal and Benue State Governments for the release of palliatives to the people as a step to cushion the negative effect arising from the removal of fuel subsidy, and called for sustenance of such measures.
The Council commended the governor Hyacinth Alia administration for ongoing repair of bad portion of roads within Makurdi metropolis and called for extension of such to other communities in the state
Members also decried the rising crime wave in some part of Makurdi especially at the North Bank area where hoodlums operate in the day light.
They challenged security agencies to improve on its intelligence gathering to tame the tide.
The communique further, commended the present administration for it support to ensure the return of peace to the State Council of NUJ and called for sustenance.
Members also applauded the Caretaker and Credentials Committee for their tireless efforts at ensuring a free, fair and credible election to usher in new executives on 16th November, 2024.
