Breaking: Fire outbreak kill mother, Son in Abuja

A midnight fire outbreak has claimed the life of a 24-year-old mother identified as Jumai Sunday and her one year-six months son, Nasir Rabiu in a house at Kugbo furniture market in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Federal Capital Territory.

Eyewitnesses account at the scene of the incident told our correspondent that the inferno occurred while the woman and her only son were in a deep sleep.

According to the sources close to the scene, the bodies were discovered by neighbours and sympathisers in their efforts to rearrange the properties after fire fighters had brought the situation under control.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Divisional police officer in charge of Karu, Abuja, Lakur Langyi, said his men received a distress call at midnight on Wednesday from the area and a team was immediately moved to the scene and discovered a woman and her son burnt to death.

He said the source of the fire was yet to be ascertained, but added that the police have since commenced an investigation into the matter.

“Yes, there was a fire incident in Kugbo at a place called Bakasi, my men got distress calls at midnight Wednesday and moved to the area, they discovered a woman, identified as Jumai Sunday with her one-and-a-half-year-old boy burnt to death.

“My men have since commenced an investigation into the matter, they are currently in the area”, he stated.

The FCT Fire Service command was yet to respond at the time of filling this report.

TMSnews gathered that preliminary report has indicated that victim is from Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa state,

The victim and her son have since been buried in Kugbo cemetery off Abuja-Nyanya -Keffi Expressway.
