Duty Tour Allowance: ASUU Mocks At FG

The Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU has mocked at the federaFe Government over it’s recent approvedd ddutytour allowance of the Permanent Secretary which has been increased from N20,000 to N70,000 per diem while that of the Minister increased from N35,000 to N80,000 per diem, effective from 1st September 2022. There is money to implement this but no money to fund what concerns the rest of us.

The striking teachers lamented that the duty tour allowance of a Permanent Secretary and Minister per diem is twice the minimum wage of N30,000 per month. Meanwhile, if a minister should be on a duty tour for a week from this month, aside from his salary, he gets a tax-free duty tour allowance that is more than the salary of a professor.

The minister of education whose duty tour allowance got increased to N80,000 per day effective from this month abandoned the renegotiated salary with Briggs Renegotiation Committee to “award” a salary increment of N30,000 to the youngest lecturer and N60,000 to the oldest professors in the university effective from March next year.

The country is surely not broke to fund the lifestyle of super civil servants and political office holders. The oppressors have got all of us in the bag.
