From Dooshima Terkura, Makurdi
A Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Elim Christian Vocational Training Centre (Elim CVTC), in Ega Ibilla Oju Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State has equipped 195 Persons with Disabilities with assistive devices.
The devices were provided by the European Union and Christian Blind Mission funded Enabling Resilience to Climate Change Related Risks through Local Civil Society Organizations Strengthening project (ER2CC).
The 195 beneficiaries which were were selected from across eight target communities in Gwer West and Konshisha LGAs were given glasses and walking canes for those with visual impairments.
Others received hearing aids for those with hearing impairments, wheelchairs, crutches, tripods, tricycles, mobility canes, lumbar corsets, knee braces among others for those with physical impairments.
The persons with disabilities received the devices with so much joy as they took turns to express their appreciation to the organization.
Traditional leaders in the various communities including Tyoor Kyav Zaki Adi Bata in Naka, Tyoor Zaki Daniel Nder Kuha, Ortar Zaki Ugula Jen and Ortar Zaki Jombo Aginde in Aondona, Ortar Zaki Aondoakaa Gbeleke in Gungul, Torkpande Zaki Terungwa Jeke in Korinya and Torkpande Zaki Agbenge in Atukpu were all present at the presentation of the assistive devices to their subjects.
Zaki Adi Bata expressed happiness over the ER2CC project’s and efforts at ensuring persons with disabilities are given fair opportunity to interact better with their environments.
