According to a 2019 United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) report titled “Lost at Home” revealed that the number of displaced children in northern Nigeria is about 2 million. This sorry revelation midwifed the birth of the movie “GOBE”.
GOBE meaning “Tomorrow” is the bringing to life of the inspirations of a young philanthropist from the remote center of Ungwan Anjo, Jemaa Local Government of Kaduna State in the northwest region of Nigeria, who is out to take a proactive step in changing the ugly narratives of child displacement, Illiteracy, and lack of basic amenities prevalent in the region.
The movie Director God’s power Okoh while speaking with journalist during the movie premier in Abuja on Thursday, narrated that the movie tells a story of two siblings who lost their parents in a crisis and because of their quest for a better life, embarked on a journey to nowhere. Okoh who counts Gobe as his third featured movie, disclosed that accessibility to the interior location was one of the challenges faced in the making of Gobe.
The movie producer and CEO/MD of Tombe Castle, Kauna Bawa during an exclusive chat with TMS News Correspondent disclosed that the inspiration to produced the movie was born out of her love and desire for a better future for those displaced persons at the IDP camps. She revealed that out of her actions of giving and supporting those in the IDP camps made her desire to do more, and to make their voices heard in the wider circle, so she decided to make a movie that will project the sensibilities of these people to the world; hence, “GOBE”.
The initiator of the soon to be unveiled Tombe Castle Initiative, further disclose to TMS News that the proceeds from this movie will be channeled into the building of schools, providing quality education, skill acquisitions and other things that will better the lives of those displaced persons in the IDP camps.
The Special Adviser to the Administrative Officer to the President, Saraki Sulaiman, while speaking to journalist in Abuja during the movie Premier, called on other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the Multinationals to come in and assist the government in taking care of these people in the IDP camps. Sulaiman equally urge the press to write and speak more about them, because nobody is talking about them.
Tombe Castle an Initiative of the Producer of GOBE, Kauna Bawa, is an NGO founded on the belief that every child deserves a comfortable home and the basic requirement, which is Education, for them to achieve their dreams and these must be provided.
