Improve on your professional knowledge to remain relevant – Nasarawa Government tells Nurses

The Nasarawa State government has challenged Nurses and other health professionals to upgrade their professional knowledge to remain relevant in their callings.

Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna who stated this in Lafia during the 16th National Conference of the Nigeria Association of Anaesthetist Nurses, urged nurses and other healthcare professionals to improve their knowledge of modern nursing techniques so as to improve healthcare service delivery in the state.

Dr. Gwamna made this call during the sixteenth National Conference of the Nigeria Association of Anaesthetist Nurses, held at the Nurses House in Lafia.

With the theme, “Central Anaesthesia: Considerations that Ensure Client Life and Safety,” the sixteenth National Conference brought together nurse anaesthetists from all thirty-six states of the federation to discuss pressing issues in the nursing profession and explore solutions.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Health Doctor Gaza Gwamna represented by the Director of Nursing Services at the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board Mrs. Eunice Osumanyi, highlighted the critical role that nurse anaesthetists play in delivering quality healthcare and the emphasized the importance of continuous learning to ensure they perform effectively.

Dr. Gwamna acknowledged the tireless efforts of healthcare practitioners in ensuring that citizens have access to quality healthcare services.

The State Commissioner of Health expressed confidence that the conference would provide participants with new methodologies for administering anaesthesia, which he said will enhance their capabilities in patient care.

National President of the Nigeria Association of Nurse Anaesthetists, Ejigah Ogbaje Friday, described the conference as vital for enhancing the knowledge of its members and encouraged participants to integrate modern nursing trends into their practice and share their learnings for optimal productivity in their respective States.

Keynote speaker Professor Henry Yammoh Embu, represented by Anaesthetist Nurse David Deborah Olukemi, called on participants to recommit to the culture of safety checklists in their practice, ensuring the well-being of their clients.

Nasarawa State Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Attah Avre, and the State Chairman of the Nigeria Association of Nurse Anaesthetists, Emmanuel Achang Ishang, underscored the importance of specialization within nursing disciplines for greater effectiveness.

Some Participants Nurse Laha Deve Noreen and Nurse Mahmud Musa described the conference as both remarkable and educational; expressing their commitment to applying the knowledge gained.
