Speaker Ayambem Pays Final Tribute to Late Senate President Dr. Joseph Wayas

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, joined dignitaries on November 30, 2024, to bid farewell to the late former Senate President, Dr. Joseph Wayas, as his remains were laid to rest in his hometown of Basang, Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State.

Speaker Ayambem in his condolence message, described Dr. Wayas as a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a source of pride for Cross River State.

“Dr. Joseph Wayas was an exceptional leader, a patriot, and a symbol of integrity,” Ayambem said. “His contributions to our nation’s democracy during the Second Republic set the standard for leadership in challenging times. He exemplified wisdom, humility, and dedication, qualities that will inspire future generations.”

“As we mourn his passing, we must celebrate his achievements and honoured his legacy by striving for Nigeria he envisioned to be built on justice, equity, and progress,” Ayambem added.

The Speaker extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Cross River State House of Assembly to Dr. Wayas’ family, friends, and associates.

The burial ceremony was attended by top dignitaries, including Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, his deputy Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, and other prominent figures from across the country.
