The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on the state government to give full autonomy to the Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Board to enable it operate optimally.
Chairman, House Committee on Financial and Appropriation, Mr Aliyu Dogara, stated this during the budget defence of the board in Lafia on Friday.
He noted that the last assembly had passed into law, the autonomy bill of the state revenue board, but its full implementation was yet to be achieved.
The chairman said that the autonomy would enhance the activities of the board, thus improving on its revenue status.
He commended the management of the board under its chairman, Mohammed Ahmed-Yakubu, for being up and doing in taking the board to a greater height.
Dogara urged him to redouble efforts in revenue generation to enable government do more for the people of the state.
Th chairman also urged the management of the board to step up in generating more revenue to the coffer of the state government.
Earlier, Ahmed-Yakubu had thanked the committee for supporting the activities of the board and called for its sustenance.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the committee also hosted the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Finance, Emmanuel Alidzi, where he briefed the committee extensively on their budget proposal.
Also, Dr Dominic Bako, the Director-General, Nasarawa State Bureau for Public Procurement also defended his agency’s 2022 budget proposal before the finance committee of the assembly.
