A few days after the lobby visit to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, two Nasarawa federal lawmakers, Sen Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo and Sen Aliyu Wadada are reportedly having it dirty over who lead the SDP in the state.
While Sen Onawo represents Nasarawa south, Sen Aliyu Wadada hold briefs for Nasarawa West.
Multiple sources from the two camps hinted that the fearless lawmaker, Sen Wadada is not willing to leave the SDP, a party he single handly raised for a stranger.
A private meeting held during the Easter holiday in Abuja between former Kaduna governor, Mal Nasir elrufai on who should lead the Nasarawa state chapter of the SDP against the high rated APC and PDP failed to reach a consensus as supporters of Sen Onawo told elrufai that only an indigenous candidate would checkmate either of the favoured candidate of the ruling APC, Hon Musa Ahmed and IGP Muhammad Adamu(rtd) or the PDP candidate, Dr David Ombugadu in the 2027 governorship race.
They gave example of how even the incumbent Gov Sule struggle to survive from Dr Ombugadu and the PDP despite the huge state’s funds at his disposal.
To outweight each other, the camp of Sen Onawo hurriedly arranged a fast meeting last week with ex Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and made the social media politics to intimidate Sen Wadada and their colleagues in the PDP.
Wether it was a mere coincidence or a strategic profidence, an interview granted by the immediate past state chairman of the PDP, Hon Francis Orogu, had exposed the weaknesses of the Onawo’s crafted visit to Atiku.
Hon Orogu had in the interview revealed that both Sen Onawo, Sen Suleiman Adokwe, Alh Jibrin Sabo Keana put together couldn’t deliver 25% votes from Doma, Obi and Keana respectively to Atiku in their polling units in the 2023 presidential election.
In realizing how smart and desperate the Onawo’s were, an inside source reliably informed the Sen Wadada’s camp took full details of the Orogu’s press interview and videos for a forensic examination with ex governor elrufai where more damaging profiles were exhumed.
The two senators are both desperate to be on the 2027 ballot as guber candidates.
While Sen Wadada has being running pillar to post, from APC to SDP, his new platform, Sen Onawo’s sojourn in the PDP is smeared with bad relationship with fellow party leaders and supporters.
He is currently in the courts(Doma High Court and the Makurdi Division of the Appeal Court) with the new leadership of the PDP.
It was this that the Wadada’s camp are asking Onawo to remain in his PDP and face Dr Ombugadu.
With the Easter break over and political activities fully resume, more counter crashes between these two are expected.
Meanwhile, the indigenous politicians in the ruling APC in Nasarawa state have continued to intensify their push for an indigenous candidate.
This is coming from the recent stakeholders’ meeting where the names of the immediate past Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammad Adamu, former Speaker Musa Ahmed and the former DG of Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuibu top discussion.
