Female NSCDC officer reportedly stab to death in Abuja

By David Odama

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Blessing Akpan, has been reportedly stabbed to death by unknown killers in front of her residence in Piawe, Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

The incident our correspondent gathered reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday last week. Akpan was attacked by suspected robbers who allegedly attempted to steal her belongings and stabbed her during the struggle.

Reports said Blessing Akpan was rushed to several hospitals following the attack but was allegedly denied immediate treatment due to the absence of a police report.

Medical personnel at Bwari General Hospital later confirmed her dead.

Friends of the deceased, have expressed frustration over what they described as a broken system. One of them, who did not want his name mentioned, said Blessing would have survived if she had received prompt medical attention.

According to her, despite presenting the victim’s NSCDC identification card at multiple hospitals, staff still demanded a police report before administering treatment.

“It is painful that we lost officer Blessing due to a weak and uncoordinated system. Someone was dying, and they insisted on a police report. Honestly, this is very sad,” the friend said.
