President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, following the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar on Monday.
General Musa, a seasoned soldier, served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025 and has a distinguished military career. Born in Sokoto in 1967, he graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1991 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.
Throughout his career, General Musa held key positions, including Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, and Deputy Chief of Staff, Training/Operations, Headquarters Infantry Centre and Corps. He also received the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. The nomination is now awaiting Senate confirmation .
This nomination happened, following a high-level visit at the President’s villa and the subsequent resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
