The Nasarawa state Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on Sunday denied alleged bribery claim against the party Chairman, Comrade Dogo Shammah.
The party in a statement by it’s state publicity secretary, Danjuma Joseph, described the accusation as false, malicious and unfounded, stressing that NDC was not aware of the story emanating against it’s State Chairman.
“The attention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nasarawa State Chapter, has been drawn to a malicious story that the state chairman, Comrade Dogo Shammah, allegedly collected N20 million to manipulate the House of Representatives primary election in favour of Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency aspirant.
“Ordinarily, the party wouldn’t have responded, but for in the eyes of the law, silence is an admittance of guilt; as such, we categorically states that the allegation is, completely false and malicious, aimed at tarnishing the hard earned immage of our chairman. Hon. Dogo Shammah.
According to the statement, “these baseless claims are the work of disgruntled elements seeking to tarnish hard earned reputation of our Chairman, and to destabilize the NDC in Nasarawa State.
The party explained that at no time the chairman directed any of its officials to prepare predetermined results.
“NDC categorically declared that our chairman received any sum of money from any aspirant, including Hon. Benjamin Wayo”
.
“The commitment of Hon Dogo Shammah has always been on the path of fairness, unity and togetherness”. .
“NDC in Nasarawa State operates on principles of equity and internal democracy. To suggest that the chairman compromised the primary election for financial gains is not only untrue, but unsubstantiated claims to reduce the integrity of our party structure and the members ,who participated in the process in good faith.
“We challenge sponsors of the false allegations to come up with credible and printable proof of the claim .
“We urge party members and the general public to disregard the misinformation. The NDC leadership at both state and national levels is aware of the facts, and the primary was conducted in full compliance with our constitution and electoral guidelines”, the statement declared.
