GALLANT WOMEN ABILTY FOUNDATION (GWAF) TO THE RESCUE…

The government has been called upon to partner with interested Non Governmental Organizations to collect data on the persons living with disability in the country.

Mrs Olaide Awosedo made the call during a visit to the studios of Timbuktoo Media Solution Limited in Abuja.

Mrs. Olaide Awosedo who is a UK based Nigerian living and gainfully working despite her disability, said nothing should impede the contributions, welfare and comfort of persons with Disability in any society generally.

Mrs Awosedo who is the founder and CEO of the Gallant Women Ability Foundation (GWAF) observed that there is need in the country to extend support to the vulnerable and those needing the space towards reaching their dreams.

She emphasized that the availability of data would make it easier for development partners and NGO to determine the nature and kind of needs for the people especially in Nigeria that has unfortunately amassed a substantial number of persons with disability as a result of accidents, trauma and conflicts in various parts of the country.

While outlining the goals of the foundation, Mrs Awosedo enumerated some of the achievements of the UK based Gallant Women Ability Foundation (GWAF) which include caring for the Elderly to live gracefully, distribution of palliatives, promoting independent living for physically challenged women and empowerment of women through acquisition of skills and petty trading.

Mrs. Awosedo further observed that many people with disabilities have skills and talents of considerable measure but need tools, encouragement and partnerships to attain their full potentials towards contributing to nation building.

The self funded GWAF which is an initiative of the  Mrs Awosedo, disclosed that the inspiration for the NGO was drawn from her own experience and the also, the need to help all categories of women in society towards integrating their talents and skills for national development.

Mrs Awosedo disclosed that she is currently in the country having taken her annual leave from work but decided to use the period to reach out to as many women in communities as possible before returning to the UK.
