Insecurity: Nasarawa ethnic group protest listing as militias

The Bassa ethnic group in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure the immediate home return of over 200,000 displaced people from the community.

They made the plea on Wednesday in Abuja at a briefing, where they also protested their recent listing as a militia group by the Nasarawa State Government.

Mr Mark Jere, Vice Chairman of Bassa Cultural and Development Union, Nasarawa State chapter, who spoke on behalf of the people, called for the rebuilding of the destroyed Bassa houses in both Toto and Nasarawa LGAs from 2018.

He called for adequate compensation and release of relief materials to the displaced Bassa people, urging the state government to disband vigilante groups in Toto LGA and allow for the inclusion of Bassa people in employment and governance as they fully returned home.
