Assemblyman Mohammed Omadefu has organised a football competition among youths of his constituency in order to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and tackle youths restiveness in Nasarawa State.
Omadefu, member representing Keana Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, made this known during the final match of the competition, tagged “Hon Quality Ramadan Football Cup 2022”, between Azuzu FC and Zargoza FC in Keana on Tuesday.
Omadefu, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information, said that the competition was organised to promote unity, peaceful co-existence among his people irrespective of their affiliations.
“This competition is part of my continued commitment to promote sporting activities in Keana Local Government Area.
“Also to make the youths discover their hidden talents and potential for the development of our constituency, the state and the country at large.
“The importance of sporting activities like this cannot be overemphasised to the development of the youths and the society in general.
“Apart from enhancing physical fitness, football also promote unity, peace, love and tackle youths restiveness in the society.
“As you can see, in football, there is no permanent enemy. When goal is scored, nobody will ask whether the goal was scored by a Christian or a Muslim or someone from any tribe.
“You can see how people came out en-masse to witness the competition and the competition has brought together people across communities in my constituency,” he said.
Omadefu therefore called on youths and other Nigerians to continue to engage in meaningful acts that would make them self relaint and better future leaders.
He appreciated his constituents for giving him their much needed support to succeed at all times and called for its sustenance.
The lawmaker assured the people of continued quality representation at the state legislature in order to enable them enjoy more dividends of democracy.
Omadefu lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in developing the state and called on the people of the state to re-elect the governor in 2023.
Besides, Omadefu congratulated Muslims on their successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging them to sustain the lesson learnt during the period.
Mr Sanusi Danji, the Chairman of Keana Local Government Council, represented by his deputy, Mr Yohanna Ikpanago, commended the lawmaker for organising the competition.
Danji also appreciated Omadefu for his efforts in bringing development to the area and assured the lawmaker of the council’s collaboration in order to develop youths.
TMSnews reports that 16 teams participated in the competition where Azuzu FC beat Zargoza FC by a lone goal in the final competition.
