The Opposition Watch Nigeria (OWN) alerts of ongoing furtive plots anchored by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike to use a notorious judge of the Federal High Court Abuja and some officials of INEC to arrest the judgement of the Supreme Court which upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu from the PDP and thereby invalidating the Wike-backed Abdulrahman Mohammed faction’s claims to the leadership of the party.
Reliable intelligent at the disposal of OWN reveals that the said Judge, who is notorious for granting damaging judgments against the PDP was sighted at a meeting very late on Friday night with leaders of the Wike-led group at the Abuja residence of a top member of that faction.
The singular objective of this unholy alliance is to procure a “black-market” court order to stop the recognition of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee which was constituted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) following the decisive judgment of the Supreme Court.
The source further revealed that at the said meeting which lasted until the wee hours of today, Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Judge was to have informed the Wike group that the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgement clearly affirmed the suspension of Anyanwu and others and as such INEC will have no option than to accept the judgment and update its portal with the names of the Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee.
After a prolonged conspiracy meeting, it was gathered that the judge asked that the Wike group to file a new case in his court with an agreement to grant a hasty ex-parte order stopping INEC from replacing the Abdulrahman Mohammed group with the Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee against the judgment of the Supreme Court.
OWN was informed that the said judge later contacted certain officials in the office of the Chief Judge of Federal High Court whom he said will help to expedite the filling of the case as well as assign it to him. The Judge also promise the Wike group that he will convince the CJ on the matter.
This morning, Saturday, May 9, 2026 OWN’s checks at the Federal High Court, Abuja confirmed that some staff of the Court were summoned to the office and some of them corroborated that such a case was being filed in the Court for Monday.
OWN views this as a direct assault on the sanctity and independence of the judiciary and a huge threat to the survival of democracy in our country.
Our Stand:
1. To the Judiciary: We call on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to beam their searchlight on the Federal High Court, Abuja divisions where these “specialized” motions are being shopped. The bench must not allow itself to be used by “political undertakers” seeking to bury the opposition.
2. To the PDP NEC: We urge the party leadership to remain steadfast. The legal gymnastics of a few individuals must not be allowed to disenfranchise millions of party members who are looking forward to a democratic transition in 2027.
3. To the Public: Nigeria is on a dangerous bend. When state actors use their proximity to power to attempt to procure” judgment, the very foundation of our democracy is at risk.
Should any questionable injunction be granted to stop INEC from updating its portal to reflect the Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee in defiance of the Judgment of the Supreme Court, OWN shall not hesitate to petition the relevant disciplinary bodies and bring the names of these characters who are bent at derailing the 2027 general elections and our hard-earned democracy to the public.
