Veteran musicians, Onyeka Onwenu and Panam Percy Paul have collaborated with Activist Reno Omokri to release a charity single aimed at drawing attention of the world to the plight of Leah Sharibu, who was abducted by radical Islamic terrorists, Boko Haram along with 109 other schoolgirls in 2018.
Written by music diva, and renowned broadcaster and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, the song, Angels on Guard: A Song for Leah, is performed by Onyeka Onwenu, also featuring foremost gospel music star, Panam Percy Paul and Reno Omokri.
The song also features most importantly, Nathan Sharibu, Leah’s father.
Recall that Leah Sharibu, a Christian school girl, was among the 110 female students of Government Science Secondary School, Dapchi, Yunusari Local area of Yobe State abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on February 19, 2018. Leah’s case, in particular, attracted unprecedented local and global attention, owing to the fact that while others were released, she was held in captivity for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.
Five of the abducted girls died on the day of their abduction. 104 were later released because they were either Muslims, or agreed to abandon their Christian faith.
Reno Omokri has been campaigning for Leah Sharibu’s release since 2018, and has written a book, Leah Sharibu: The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind. 100% of the royalties of that book was paid to Leah’s mother.
