The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, today joined dignitaries and military officials to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in Millennium Park, Calabar.
The event, held to honour the sacrifices of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel, and the nation’s gratitude for those who laid down their lives in defense of peace, freedom, and sovereignty.
Speaker Ayambem in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, described the tribute as a symbol of respect and appreciation for the gallant men and women who continue to serve the country with courage and dedication.
“The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain,” he said, emphasizing the enduring importance of remembering the sacrifices made by military personnel. He urged Nigerians to support the families of fallen heroes and ensure the welfare of veterans and serving officers, noting that their bravery underpins the freedoms enjoyed by citizens today.
The Speaker called for a renewed commitment to the values of unity, patriotism, peace, and justice that the fallen heroes fought to protect. “As we stand united today, let us commit to building a nation worthy of their sacrifices, where every citizen can live in dignity, freedom, and harmony,” he said
