Police Arrest 11 Suspects over Cult Killings in Benue, Says One Hospitalized

The Police in Benue state have arrested 11 suspects in connection with cult related killings in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO DSP Udeme Edet disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Monday.

Recall that about eight persons were said to have been killed by cultists at the early hours of Monday, May 11, 2026 at Aliade street in Makurdi town.

Edet who confirmed the killings in a statement said 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.

She however state that six persons were killed while one was in the hospital receiving treatment.

According to her, “On 11/05/2026 at about 0230hrs a distress call was received from a landlord at Aliade Street high level, Makurdi, that some armed men came to his house, dragged some young men out of their room and shot them.

“Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene. Preliminary investigation reveal that it was a cult related killing done by a team,suspected to have been led by one “Odinaka” who has become notorious for such activities.

“Eleven suspected have been arrested in connection with the case while efforts are been made to arrest the gang leader “Odinaka”.”

Edet said “Sadly 6 people lost their life and one is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”
