Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau has announced the defection of two lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the State.
They two lawmakers are Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu (Keana) and Hon. Jacob Ajegena Kudu (Nassarawa Eggon East)
The Speaker announced their resignation from APC in a separate letters submitted to him by the two lawmakers during the House processings today in Lafia.
Dr. Jatau while reading their letters said that the duo cited ill treatment meted on them during the just concluded APC primaries in the State.
“Some of us have accepted the outcome of the APC primaries in good faith. While some of you did not and felt that you have a platform that you will excel.
So, I wish you best of luck in your new platforms” he said.
In a related development, the House passed into second reading A Bill for a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund Law, 2025 and for Other Matters Connected Therewith.
Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Sponsor of the Bill said that the bill if passed into law would generate more revenue, create jobs and improve on the standard of education in the state.
Also contributing, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki and Hon. Larry Ven- Bawa supported the bill to scale second reading.
They said that the bill would tackle unemployment and improve on the standard of living of the people as well as that of education in the State.
However, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the House takes a swept reaction calling on the House to find solution to the leadership crisis rocking the State Education Trust Fund than amending the bill.
“The facts remains that there is serious leadership crisis in the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund,
“So, it is better for the House to liase with the Executive in order to find solution to the leadership problem in the State Education Trust Fund rather than the ongoing amendment, basides there was an executive bill to that effect” he said.
Speaker Danladi Jatau, after a voice vote passed the bill into second reading and committed it to the House Committee on Education to work on it and report back to the House on 28th July, 2026.
Furthermore, the House has deliberated and adopted the report of the House Standing Committee on Education, Science and Technology on a Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Adult and Non-Formal Education Agency and for Purposes Connected Therewith.
The Speaker Dr. Jatau slated 20th July, 2026 for the final passage of the bill.
Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the adoption of the committee’s report , Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House seconded the motion.
The House unanimously adopted the Committee’s report.
The speaker also announced the appointment of Ahmed Jibrin as NASIEC Commissioner and Nasiru Aminu Ahmed as Member, Loko Area Administrative Council as forwarded to the House by Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate to the nominees to submit 30 copies of their CVs to the House on or before Monday next week which is slated for their appearance for screening.
