ABUJA — The outgoing President of the Alago Ikweyi Gbayi Development Union (AIGDU), Abuja, Mohammed Oshafu, has handed over leadership of the union after four years in office, highlighting achievements in education, infrastructure, access to water and advocacy for the Alago Nation.
In his handover speech, Oshafu expressed gratitude to God and members of the union for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure, noting that the achievements recorded were made possible through collective efforts and contributions from development partners and stakeholders.
He identified the take-off of Alago Unity Science and Technical College in Odobu as one of the major achievements of his administration, describing the institution as a long-term investment in the future of Alago children.
Oshafu also highlighted the construction of two blocks of three classrooms each, one facilitated through the support of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, and another, equipped with furniture, through Distinguished Senator Mohammed Onawo.
He further disclosed that salaries of staff of the college had been paid from January 2025 to date, while acknowledging the contributions of stakeholders towards the institution’s development.
Other achievements listed by the outgoing president included the provision of an equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, facilitated through Senator Suleiman Adokwe, and the sinking of a solar-powered motorised borehole attracted by the traditional ruler, HRH Engr Mohammed Addra, also known as Ose Gidadu.
Mohammed Oshafu said his administration also organised three press conferences to defend the interests, dignity and aspirations of the Alago Nation.
He commended the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, Senators Suleiman Adokwe, Mohammed Onawo and Salihu Egyegbola, HRH Engr Mohammed Addra, Engr Yakubu Umaru Opara, Ambassador Auwal Mohammed Atose and Alhaji Saidu Adamu Ogbole (Shettima Agwatashi) for their contributions and support for the development of the community.
Despite the achievements recorded, Oshafu identified the continued development of Alago Unity Science and Technical College, Odobu, as a priority requiring sustained attention.
He appealed to the incoming administration, traditional rulers, political leaders, stakeholders and all sons and daughters of the Alago Nation to support the institution with adequate facilities and other resources needed to ensure its long-term success.
Congratulating the incoming president and executive members, Oshafu urged them to lead with humility, transparency, fairness and dedication, while building on previous achievements and placing the collective interests of the people above personal considerations.
He also called on members of the union to cooperate with the new leadership, stressing that changes in administration should not affect the shared responsibility of advancing the development of the Alago Nation.
Reflecting on his four years in office, Oshafu acknowledged that his administration might not have met every expectation and asked for understanding and forgiveness where it had fallen short.
He expressed optimism that the incoming administration would achieve greater success, reaffirming his willingness to offer advice and assistance when needed.
Oshafu concluded by formally handing over leadership, emphasising the importance of unity and collective responsibility in advancing the community’s development, peace and prosperity.
