The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) on the platform of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) have declared their commitment to the implementation of the recommendations of the technical committee on autonomy for state legislature and judiciary.
This was contained in a communique released Friday in Abuja and signed by Kebbi state governor and Chairman of the Forum, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. The APC governors in the communique expressed readiness to submit themselves to the agreement reached by the committee at its meeting with stakeholders, particularly the leadership of JUSUN and State Assemblies.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum had earlier on set up a technical committee with Sokoto state governor and Deputy Chairman of the Forum, Aminu Tambuwal to see to the implementation of the autonomy of State Legislature and the Judiciary.
The Governors further stated that Attorneys General in the states under their control have been mandated to initiate appropriate legal framework for the implementation of the recommendations of the Governor Tambuwal Committee report.
“We reviewed the work done by NGF Committee on autonomy for Judiciary and State Legislature under the Chairmanship of His Excellency Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state.
“Noted that the Governor Tambuwal-led NGF Committee consulted all the critical stakeholders, notably leadership of State Judiciary and Assemblies and jointly reached agreements on specific initiatives to be taken by state governments to guarantee autonomy for State judiciary and assemblies.
“Accordingly, Forum endorsed agreements reached by the Governor Tambuwal-led NGF Committee and enjoined all APC controlled states and indeed all states to commence the process of implementing the submitted recommendations.
“As part of the process of implementing the NGF agreements in APC controlled states, appropriate consultations with Attorneys-General will take place in order to provide all necessary legal framework for the implementation of the Governor Tambuwal-led NGF Committee’s proposed recommendations.”
The APC governors’ forum commended their Yobe state counterpart and Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni on the success achieved with the membership registration and revalidation exercise and efforts towards the conduct of national convention.
They also urged Buni not to relent in his efforts towards a genuine and ensuring reconciliation ahead of the national convention.
