Boys Brigade, Benue Youth urged to embrace discipline, shun vices that can destroy their future

Members of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria have been urged to uphold the values of humility, discipline, self-respect and dedication as a foundation for becoming responsible citizens and future leaders.

The Chairman of Kwande Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State, Mr. Vitalis Neji, gave the charge while declaring open the 18th Annual General Conference of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Benue High-Level Battalion Council, held at the 96th Benue Company, NKST Church, Idye, Makurdi.

Neji commended the Boys’ Brigade for its role in shaping the lives of young people, noting that the organisation has produced many responsible adults who now serve in the military, paramilitary and other public institutions.

He pledged the continued support of the state government for the organisation, saying the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia remains committed to youth development and welfare.

The ALGON chairman also donated towards the Battalion’s skills acquisition programme and encouraged members to remain committed to the teachings of their officers to realise their aspirations.

He further advised young people in the state to avoid behaviours capable of jeopardising their future, while encouraging them to contribute positively to society.

Also speaking, the Comptroller of Immigration, Benue State Command, Grace Nkwanwung, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the officers and boys during the parade inspection and urged them to sustain the high standard.

Nkwanwung pledged the support of the Nigeria Immigration Service to the organisation, particularly in providing opportunities for qualified Boys’ Brigade members during recruitment exercises.

She also encouraged the Battalion leadership to strengthen its collaboration with the command for the benefit of members.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Benue High-Level Battalion Council, Elder Joseph Kwaghdega, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to moulding the character of young people through spiritual, physical, educational and emotional development.

He disclosed that the council had commenced a skills acquisition programme aimed at equipping members with vocational skills to promote self-reliance and employment opportunities.

Kwaghdega appealed to the Benue State Government and security agencies to give qualified Boys’ Brigade members consideration during recruitment exercises, describing it as a way of empowering youths and improving their socio-economic well-being.

He added that the Boys’ Brigade, as a Christian uniformed youth organisation, remains committed to raising disciplined and responsible children capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Council of Battalion Patrons, Mrs. Jane Mlumun Chia Titor, thanked the guests for their support and urged members to stay away from social vices that could derail their ambitions.

She assured members of the patrons’ continued commitment to supporting the activities and growth of the Battalion.
