Dr. Mike Omeri: The Senator Who Will Build the Pond, Not Just Give the Fish

Written by Aris Godwin Alizaga and Edited by Alfred M.Akwe

The annals of history continue to remind the people of Nasarawa State of the remarkable contributions of one of its distinguished sons, Hon. Dr. Mike Omeri.

As Desmond Tutu aptly observed, “Memory lives,” and leaders are ultimately remembered by the impact they make when given the opportunity to serve. By this measure, Dr. Omeri’s record of service speaks for itself.

His contributions to Nasarawa State during his tenure as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport remain notable. Among the projects and initiatives associated with his administration were the upgrade of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, the development of Nasarawa Estate and the influence on the Abdullahi Adamu Estate, the construction of the Abacha Youth Centre, and the introduction of the iconic “On the Move” transport system.

As Commissioner for Information, Dr. Omeri also played a significant role in the establishment of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), strengthening the state’s information and communication infrastructure.

His service later extended to the federal level when he was appointed Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA). In that capacity, he continued his commitment to public service and human empowerment, reportedly helping more than 250 individuals secure pensionable appointments and creating opportunities for personal and professional advancement.

These experiences demonstrate a leadership philosophy that goes beyond temporary relief. Dr. Omeri’s record suggests a leader who seeks to create systems, institutions and opportunities through which people can achieve sustainable progress.

This is why Nasarawa South Senatorial District needs a representative with his experience, administrative capacity and proven record of service.

A senator is expected not merely to distribute benefits, but to make laws, influence policies, attract development and speak courageously for the interests of the people. Dr. Omeri possesses the oratory skills, institutional experience and political maturity required to effectively represent the district at the National Assembly.

He is also widely regarded as a hardworking and grassroots-oriented politician, qualities that are essential for effective representation.

For the people of Nasarawa South, the choice before them should therefore go beyond promises and rhetoric. His previous record provides a basis for assessing what he could potentially contribute if given the mandate to serve in the Senate.

In simple terms, Dr. Mike Omeri is not the kind of leader who merely gives people fish; he is the kind who seeks to create the pond, build the system and empower the people to sustain themselves.

For Nasarawa South, that experience is an asset worth considering.
