Five killed, scores abducted as gunmen invade Niger community

Five villagers, including two pregnant women, have been killed by gunmen who raided Gidigori village in the Rafi local government area of Niger state.

The incident occurred between Tuesday night and early Wednesday when the armed men stormed the village.

It was gathered that several cattle were rustled by the rampaging terrorists who also set about 11 houses on fire.

An eyewitness in Minna said the terrorists raided the community riding on 25 motorcycles with three of them on each 

On arrival at the village the terrorists carrying sophisticated weapons including AK47 rifles started shooting sporadically making the villagers to scamper for safety.

It was gathered that after raiding the village the gunmen headed towards Kaduna state attacking and robbing motorists of their valuable items.

Calls made to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Emmanuel Umar were not responded to.

Also the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached for confirmation of the story.
