A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Musa Muhammed Maikaya, has clarified the reasons behind Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the party’s preferred consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at his residence over the weekend in Toto, while addressing party stakeholders, coordinators, and leaders drawn from Toto, Umaisha, and Gadabuke districts, where discussions were centered on the party’s political direction ahead of the next election cycle, Maikaya explained that all APC governorship aspirants had earlier met with Governor Sule and other party leaders, during which they collectively agreed to support whoever emerged as the party’s candidate.
He stated further that although efforts were being made to reach a consensus among the aspirants, the governor eventually settled for Senator Wadada, a decision he urged party members to accept in good faith.
According to Maikaya, leadership outcome are ultimately determined by divine will, noting that Wadada’s choice should be seen as providential rather than imposition.
He commended his supporters and campaign team for their calmness, maturity, response to the development and understanding.
Reflecting on his political trajectory, Maikaya recalled his previous bids for the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency seat in 2003 and the governorship in 2019. Which he sacrificed for the unity of the party and the general peace of the state.
While expressing gratitude for the opportunities, Maikaya said his renewed ambition for 2027 was driven by the desire to give his constituency a chance at producing a governor, a position which he said remain one of the areas yet to be occupied.
He also dismissed allegations that the Sule administration had sidelined Toto Local Government Area, citing ongoing infrastructure and governance efforts, including the 48-kilometre Umaisha–Toto road project, improved security, strengthening of traditional institutions, and the appointment of indigenes into strategic government roles.
Maikaya called on his supporters and stakeholders to remain united, resolute and committed to the success of the APC, Governor Sule, and Senator Wadada in the forthcoming party primaries.
It would be recalled that the meeting was attended by key party leaders, including Toto APC Chairman Alhaji Umar Salihu; Executive Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya; former council APC Chairman and the current State Assistant Auditor, Shuaib Ahmed Katuka; as well as other political appointees amongst others from across the districts.
