‘No Farmer Should Lose Hope’ — Omeri Begins Fertiliser Support in Nasarawa South

• Over 1,500 bags to be distributed across 53 wards as candidate promises continuous intervention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa South Senatorial District election, Dr. Mike Omeri Agbo-Omeri, OFR, has commenced the distribution of more than 1,500 bags of 5kg fertiliser to farmers across the 53 wards of the senatorial district.

The intervention, which is being implemented in phases, is aimed at reducing the burden of agricultural input costs on farmers and boosting food production across Nasarawa South.

Speaking on Monday during the distribution on behalf of Omeri, his spokesperson, Hajiya Maryam Osuza, said the initiative was part of the candidate’s commitment to supporting farmers and improving livelihoods in the district.

Although Omeri was not physically present at the event, Osuza, alongside the PDP Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Isa Wakwa, and other stakeholders, represented him during the exercise.
Osuza said the first phase would cover farmers across the 53 wards, stressing that the intervention was not designed to favour any particular group.

“Today’s fertiliser distribution is part of his modest contribution towards supporting our farmers and farming activities. This is the first phase, and more than 1,500 bags of 5kg fertiliser will be distributed across all the 53 wards in Nasarawa South Senatorial District,” she said.

She explained that the intervention was intended to ease the financial pressure faced by farmers in acquiring essential inputs while encouraging food production and food security.

Osuza further disclosed that the distribution would continue beyond the first phase, assuring farmers who did not benefit immediately that more fertiliser would be made available.

“This is not a one-day exercise. The distribution will be continuous. We know that the number of farmers who need support is much greater than what is being distributed today,” she said.

She urged farmers who were unable to receive fertiliser during the first phase not to be discouraged, saying arrangements were already being concluded for subsequent distributions.

“Those who are unable to receive fertiliser today should not be discouraged or feel left out. More quantities will be distributed in the coming weeks, and arrangements are being concluded to ensure that more farmers across the senatorial district benefit from the programme.

“Our message is simple: no farmer should lose hope.”

The PDP candidate’s spokesperson also appealed to beneficiaries to make proper use of the fertiliser, stressing that the intervention was specifically intended to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen the livelihoods of farming families.

She said agriculture remained central to the economic wellbeing of communities in Nasarawa South, urging farmers to remain committed to food production.
Osuza also commended community leaders, organisers and volunteers who contributed to the exercise, describing their efforts as important to ensuring that the intervention reached farmers at the grassroots.

She said the fertiliser distribution formed part of a broader value-chain approach to supporting agriculture and improving the welfare of people across the senatorial district.

The spokesperson assured farmers that their concerns and aspirations remained important to Omeri, adding that the fertiliser intervention was only one of the steps being taken to strengthen farming and improve agricultural livelihoods.

She congratulated the beneficiaries and urged those awaiting subsequent phases to remain patient, assuring them that the programme would continue in the coming weeks.
