Omeri Boosts Agriculture in Nasarawa South, Distributes Bags of Fertiliser

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Dr. Mike Omeri, has commenced the distribution of 1,500 bags of 5kg fertiliser to farmers across all 54 wards in the five Local Government Areas that make up the senatorial district.

The intervention, according to Omeri, is part of his modest contribution towards supporting farmers and agricultural activities, particularly at this crucial period of the farming season.

Presenting the fertiliser on behalf of the senatorial candidate, his spokesperson, Hajiya Maryam Ibrahim Osuza, said the first phase of the programme had provided 1,500 bags of 5kg fertiliser for distribution across the 54 wards of Nasarawa South.

She said the initiative was aimed at reducing the burden of purchasing essential farm inputs while encouraging increased food production, improving livelihoods and strengthening food security across the senatorial district.

We understand the important role agriculture plays in the lives of our people.

Therefore, the fertiliser will be distributed without discrimination or any separate interest.

It is for farming families across Nasarawa South to improve food production, livelihoods and income, especially at this time,” Osuza said.

She explained that the intervention was deliberately introduced at a crucial period of the farming season to enable farmers to maximise production.

Osuza stressed that the distribution was not a one-day exercise, assuring farmers that more quantities would be distributed in the coming weeks.

She urged farmers who were unable to benefit from the first phase not to feel discouraged or left out, saying arrangements were already being concluded to ensure that more farmers across the senatorial district benefit from the programme.

Our message is simple: no farmer should lose hope.

We know that the number of farmers who need support is much greater than what is being distributed today.

Those who are unable to receive fertiliser today should not feel left out. More quantities will be distributed in the coming weeks,” she added.

Also speaking on behalf of the five Local Government Area chairmen of the PDP, the party’s Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Isa Wakwa, commended Dr. Omeri for the initiative.

Wakwa described the gesture as timely, noting that supporting farmers with agricultural inputs was essential to boosting food production, improving the livelihoods of rural families and strengthening food security.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertiliser and called on other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the initiative by supporting farmers across Nasarawa State.
