After series of consultations, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Sen. Bola Ahmed has settled for the governor of Plateau state, Simon Bako Lalong as his Director General, DG.
This was disclosed after a meeting attended by the Progressives Governor’s Forum and the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima in Lagos. The meeting which started on Monday night ended Tuesday.
According to an inside source close to Gov Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, the choice of Gov Lalong emerged after el- Rufai turned down the offer.
The presidential candidate and his running mate had asked the progressive governors to pick el-Rufai’s replacement.
The source who discribed process which involved extensive consultations in arriving at a structure for the presidential campaign council.
Gov Simon Bako Lalong, the governor of Plateau State is seen as a stabilizing force as a Christian and indeed, his current role as the chairman, Northern Governors Forum.
His strong Catholic back background was seen as a good bait for the anti Muslim-muslim ticket posture by the Babachir Lawal camp.
The source added: “We have briefed the candidate and his running mate, and we have gotten their input. Our hope is that the candidate will assuage the aggrieved members, consult more with the party leadership as soon as possible, and then we will officially unveil the presidential campaign council after we have briefed Mr. President and gotten his input. Before making an official announcement, the President, the National Chairman, and the National Working Committee will be briefed.
