Nigeria’s senate president, Ahmed Lawan has finally aired his view on the last weekend controversial ban of the microblogging platform – Twitter by the Nigerian government. According to Lawan, Nigeria needs Twitter as much as Twitter needs Nigeria.
Lawan, who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Friday, exactly a week after the federal government pronounced the ban, expressed optimism that the current row between the federal government and the micro-blogging platform will be resolved as soon as possible.
In his words, “The honorable minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, informed Nigerians that they are talking with Twitter to resolve this matter.”
“Our belief is that Nigeria needs Twitter just as much as Twitter needs Nigeria,” he said.
“We believe that the matter between Twitter and the federal government of Nigeria will be resolved. But beyond that, I am an optimist, I believe all of us will have learnt our lessons.”
