2027: APC founding father dumps party for ADC in Niger state

By David Odama

A founding member and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, Umar Shuaibu, has resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Shuaibu announced his resignation in a letter dated July 2, 2025, addressed to his Bagama B Ward in Suleja Local Government Area.

“Today, July 2, 2025, I wish to announce to the good people of my Ward Bagama B, Suleja Local Government, Niger State, and Nigeria at large, that I have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the letter read.

Citing reasons for his defection, Shuaibu said his decision was based on a loss of trust in the APC-led government, which he accused of abandoning the welfare and well-being of ordinary Nigerians.

“APC is rather than focusing on providing the dividends of democracy to the people, they are devoting their time to early political campaigns instead of addressing pressing socio-economic issues affecting citizens”.

“Rather than prioritizing the welfare of the people, the APC is busy with premature electioneering campaigns—two years before the next elections. Selling the APC to Nigerians for any future election is now not just difficult, but practically impossible,” he added.

Umar Shuaibu was the pioneer State Chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Niger State and played a pivotal role in its merger with other political parties to form the APC.

His exit is seen as a major blow to the ruling party in Niger State, as political realignments ahead of 2027 begin to
