Former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri, has cautioned members of the Peoples Democratic Party against personal attacks ahead of the Nasarawa South Senatorial primaries, insisting that politics should be driven by ideas and not bitterness.

Omeri, in a statement on Monday, defended the decision of former PDP state chairman and current zonal official, Francis Orogu, to contest for the Senate seat, saying every Nigerian has the constitutional right to vote and be voted for.

He urged critics of Orogu’s ambition to remain calm and avoid unnecessary distractions, expressing confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious in the contest.

“Politics should be the contest of ideas, choices and issue-based engagements, not personal attacks, after all we are in the same party, the PDP,” Omeri stated.
The former NOA boss stressed that leadership and political opportunities ultimately come from God, arguing that no individual possesses the power to determine another person’s destiny.

“God is the giver of leadership, position and every opportunity. No one can rise to it without the approval of the Grand Owner of power. If it were within human ability to deny or grant power, then people would simply give it to themselves,” he said.

Omeri also faulted the tendency of politicians to blame others for their setbacks, saying failure in politics is often linked to circumstances, timing and personal decisions rather than enemies.

“When you accuse another person of being responsible for your downfall in politics, you are shifting blame instead of accepting reality. Failure is often the outcome of circumstances, decisions and timing, not the work of an enemy,” he added.

He maintained that political disagreements should not destroy personal relationships, noting that maturity and respect must prevail among party members despite differing interests.

“You do not have to agree with someone’s political dealings, but you should respect their humanity,” he said.
Omeri further appealed to PDP supporters and loyalists to remain resolute and focused ahead of the senatorial primaries.

He said, “I urge our supporters, friends and well-wishers to remain focused, resolute and determined while avoiding distractions and to massively turn out tomorrow to grace our senatorial primaries with great expectations until total victory is secured for our party.”
