Muhammed Musa Maikaya Foundation, a non governmental Organization in Nasarawa state has enrolled over 750 women, Children into the State Health Insurance Scheme
Chairman/CEO of Maikaya Development Foundation, Muhammed Musa Maikaya, said at the launch of the enrollment programme in Toto Local government area of Nasarawa state that the excercise was the first-of-its-kind in the state.
He explained that the enrollment programme is aimed at catering for the health need and well-being of the underprivileged people in various communities in the state.
Maikaya further explained that the enrollees were selected randomly across all the 13 local government areas in synergy with stakeholders for equitable distribution and participation of those in need of the scheme.
“This humanitarian outfit has been supporting vulnerable individuals for almost a decade with well structures to ensure it’s sustainability”.
The foundation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer who debunked speculations that he was using the foundation for political ambition urged well meaning citizens of the state and Nigerians a a whole to look back and impact on the vulnerable persons in the society by engaging in humanitarian programme for the benefit of all.
Speaking at the launch, Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, said the efforts of his administration were geared towards initiating programmes that will fund the health financing of the vulnerable women men and children of the state.
Sule said it was only with a healthy population that the economy of the state will thrive especially in areas like agriculture and industrialization.
Governor Sule who was represented by the state Commissioner of health, Gaza Gwamna added that the state’s health indicators had improved with a rising number of healthy population in the state, pledging government’s efforts to ensure universal health coverage.
The governor while acknowledging that no investment in the health sector is a waste, stressed that with health financing, citizens’ confidence will increase for better healthcare service delivery.
Executive Secretary of the State Health Insurance Agency, Yahaya Ubam, encouraged citizens to take advantage of the programme to enrol into the state health insurance scheme.
” I want to urge all and sundry to take advantage of the health insurance Scheme because it is accessible, affordable and efficient in rendering basic healthcare services for members of the formal and informal sectors”..
He called on politicians and philanthropists to join the health insurance Scheme to cater for the health needs of the underprivileged.
Delivering goodwill messages, State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Safiyanu Andaha, Member representing Ugya/Umaisha at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Sa’ad and the Senior Special Assistant to governor Sule on Women Affairs, Elsie Monde lauded Maikaya Development Foundation’s “charitable gesture in putting smiles on the faces of the vulnerable people.
Some beneficiaries of the programme, Amina Ali and Ewongulu Martha appreciated the Foundation’s commitment to improving their well-being.
