Unidentified gunmen have reportedly murdered a lawyer, Barr. Mike Ofikwu, in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
It was gathered that the incident took place Wednesday night, November 20, 2024 when the deceased was returning from work.
A source who is resident in Otukpo, told newsmen on Thursday that the lawyer, who was the secretary of Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Otukpo branch, was shot at in his house at Otukpa Street, in Otukpo.
He said sources who live to close to the lawyer’s house said that he was shot when he return home and while trying to open his door when two gunmen swiftly approached and shot at him.
He said the lawyer was rushed to the hospital immediately where he eventually died.
A colleague of the deceased who didn’t want to be named confirmed the incident saying “Yes, he is my call mate and the current NBA Secretary of Otukpo Branch. I was with him in the hospital until he finally gave up the ghost early this morning (Thursday).
“He was attack at the gate of his house when he came back from work and was about to drive in by seven gunmen who shot him several times and even cut his hand with a matchet.
“He died at the Federal University of Health Science Teaching Hospital Otukpo while receiving treatment at about 1.40 am. We deposited his remain in the morgue of the same hospital.”
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident.
The the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, commiserated with the family assuring the family that justice will be given to them.
“This incident is confirmed and investigation is ongoing. I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them of justice that will be served,” Anene saidr NBA Secretary in Benue
