The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Zonal Office in Minna has confirmed that six corruption-related cases were presenty being prosecuted in court.
Resident Commissioner of the zone, Kennedy Ebotemen, disclosed this when he received the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu, during a courtesy visit.
Ebotemen encouraged citizens to submit petitions to the commission, assuring them that their identities would remain protected under ICPC secrecy laws.
He expressed concern over the limited number of petitions from the public, noting that more genuine information would strengthen the fight against corruption.
“We have six cases of corruption in court, and this is due to the few petitions we received. I want to encourage the public to send in more genuine information, which will be treated as confidential,” he said.
The Resident Commissioner also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the ICPC and the media, highlighting the role of journalists in exposing corruption and promoting transparency.
In his remarks, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abu Nmodu, called for greater cooperation between the ICPC and journalists, especially in coverage of the commission’s activities.
He further urged the ICPC to replicate at the Minna zone the journalist training programmes being carried out at the commission’s headquarters, noting that such initiatives would strengthen the partnership between both institutions.
