I will not just appear as Nnamdi’s witness because my name is mention – Wike

The FCT, minister, Nyesom Wike, on Friday stated that he will not appear as a witness in the trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), leader, Nnamdi Kanu, jnust because his name appeared in newspaper reports.

Wike however emphasized that if he is formally summoned by the court to testify or provide evidence, he will comply without hesitation.”

The FCT minister who spoke During a media parley in Abuja, stated that “nobody has served him any process” to appear as Kanu’s witness.

He made it clear that press reports are not a legal instruction, saying:“You don’t become a witness by reading the newspaper. Nobody has served me any process; nobody has subpoenaed me.”

He stressed that he would not “begin to run helter-skelter” just because he saw his name listed. He affirmed his obedience to the law:“If I am served, if I am subpoenaed to come and give a witness or give evidence, I must obey the court; I must appear.”

When asked if he knew why Kanu listed him as a witness, Wike said that he did not, suggest that only the IPOB leader could provide the reason:“If you see Nnamdi Kanu, you ask him, ‘Why did you list me? I did not go and say I want to be a witness.’ So, if you see him, ask him, ‘Why did you list Wike as one of your witnesses?’”

Kanu, who is trial over terrorism charges at the Abuja Federal High Court, listed Wike among several other top names as “compellable witnesses” in his ongoing trial.

Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), .A former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), .Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, .Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, .The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.The immediate past governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu.
