Govt. To Provide Motor Boats, Jackets For Riverine Dwellers in Sokoto

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has directed the state ministry for local government, headed by the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, to collaborate with the state emergency relief agency, to provide motorboats and life jackets to the local government areas of the state where passengers must cross rivers, lakes, and ponds.

This was stated in a release signed by the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor, Muhammad Bello given in a reaction to a boat mishap which occurred in the state in which 13 people traveling from Dorowa to Ginga village in Shagari local government area of the state died.

Henceforth, the Governor directed that marine traveler in Sokoto state will have to wear life jackets and embark on their journeys in motorboats instead of dug-out canoes.

The Governor, who condoled the people of the town over the incident added that the facilities will be distributed to people living in riverine areas in the state since the raining season has started.

The governor also charged people to always take precautionary measures while being transported by boats.

Gov. Tambuwal while condoling people of the area, prayed Allah to grant the deceased Jannatul firdausi.

He also prayed to Allah to prevent future occurence.
